I intend to stabilize it by anchoring it to a railing, but am unsure of the warning about pole mounting.

This cross can be safely mounted to a poll using a strong hook and cable ties to stabilize it 4" Self-Locking Cable Zip Ties 100-Pack - Birddog Lighting. The warning was in regards to a poll mount option we used to offer. The dimensions on this lighted sign were too large for that particular option.
